House Dem Says ICE Officers ‘Worse Than any Venezuelan or El Salvadorian Gang’

Rep. Timothy Horrigan (D-Durham) testified before the House Criminal Justice Committee on a Democratic bill to block local law enforcement from participating in ICE’s Section 287(g) program, saying ICE was worse than any Venezuelan or El Salvadoran gang. As reported by NH Journal, the remarks drew a strong rebuke from Republicans, including House Majority Leader Jason Osborne.

Rep. Timothy Horrigan (D-Durham) was testifying before the House Criminal Justice Committee on behalf of HB 1570 , a Democratic bill designed to block local law enforcement agencies from participating in ICE’s Section 287(g) program.

Horrigan said he would like to see the agency removed from the state.

“If it were in our power, I would like to just ban them altogether, because what they’ve been doing is worse than any Venezuelan or El Salvadoran gang could be doing to people,” Horrigan said.

According to NH Journal, the comments prompted a sharp response from Republicans.

House Majority Leader Jason Osborne (R-Auburn) called Horrigan’s comments “outrageous, nonsensical and deeply reckless.”
