Republican Jodi Nelson won a special election in Derry to replace Rep. Anne Copp, defeating Democrat Mary Eisner by nearly 20 points, NH Journal reported. The win gave the NHGOP a needed boost amid the tightest House majority on record.
The result was expected but still welcome for the party, according to NH Journal.

Recent losses elsewhere had raised the stakes for the seat.
But with earlier “safe” seats falling to Democrats, like in Republican Bedford, Tuesday’s win inspired a sigh of relief for the NHGOP heading into the second year of a session with the tightest majority margin on record.

Nelson described the themes of her campaign after the victory.
“We have run a campaign promoting lower taxes, better educations for our children, safer communities… and a strong economy.”
